Outside Burn Permit Information
Burn Permits will be required effective March 20, 2023, until further notice.
If there is adequate snow cover you don't need a permit to burn brush or have a campfire. If the amount of snow is questionable contact the Fire Station at 228-4320.
Brush Permit
A one day permit that allows the property owner or designee to burn permissible material.
Regulations for Brush Permits
- Only brush or untreated wood materials can be burned.
- Logs less than 5 inches in diameter can be burned.
- Stumps can not be burned.
- The fire can be kindled no earlier than 5 p.m. and must be extinguished prior to 9 a.m. the following day.
- Fire can be lit prior to 5 p.m. if it is raining.
- Fire must be attended to by the permittee at all times until it is completely extinguished.
- The property owner must get the permit OR give written permission to a person 18 years or older.
- The Brush Permit can be issued for up to 7 days.
How to Get a Brush Permit
- The property owner or designee (with written permission) can stop by the station at anytime to get a Brush Permit. There is no cost.
or - The property owner can go online at Division of Forests and Lands website. There is a $3 fee to use the State's online system.
- Note: Brush Permits will not be issued during dangerous fire weather.
Seasonal Campfire Permit
One permit that is valid for the calendar year to burn permissible material in a constructed or purchased fire pit.
Regulations for Seasonal Campfire Permits
Category 1 (2 feet in diameter or less)
- Must have a non-combustable containment. (rocks, bricks, metal, etc.)
- Must be located on brick, gravel, cement, or dirt.
- Must be 2 feet in diameter or less.
- Must be 25 feet from a structure or part of a structure.
- Can only be used to burn brush or untreated wood that is less than 5 inches in diameter.
- Can burn anytime of the day.
- Must be attended to at all times.
Category 2 (4 feet in diameter or less)
- Must have a non-combustable containment. (rocks, bricks, metal, etc.)
- Must be located on brick, gravel, cement, or dirt.
- Must be 4 feet in diameter or less.
- Must be 50 feet from a structure or part of a structure.
- Can only be used to burn brush or untreated wood that is less than 5 inches in diameter.
- Can burn after 5 p.m. or while raining.
- Must be attended to at all times.
Note: Permittees will be notified when burning is restricted during periods of dangerous fire weather.
