The Bow Police Department is seeking a certified police officer to be our next K9 handler. The certified officer must have a minimum of three years of police experience and reside within 25 miles of the Town of Bow to be able to respond to the town in a timely manner. We have revamped our K9 program and will be going with a labrador retriever that will be trained in tracking (search and rescue) and drug detection. This position is assigned to the patrol division and the officer will handle routine patrol calls for service in addition to the K9 responsibilities.
The chosen officer will attend 15 weeks of patrol K9 training hosted by the Hillsboro, NH Police Department starting in September and will also attend an eight-week drug detection training in April 2025. The K9 handler is expected to be community-oriented and excited to use the K-9 for community outreach.
The K-9 Officer is assigned a take-home cruiser. The current K-9 cruiser has been approved to be replaced in the upcoming budget.
Due to the amount of training associated with this position, there is a 5-year training agreement between the Town of Bow and the K-9 handler.
